From a very young age, I have always had big dreams of all the things I wanted to do in my life. However, one of the blocks that stopped me from pursuing my dreams was fear of failure and the lack of self-confidence that I needed to overcome.
Self-confidence is defined as a feeling of trust in one’s abilities, qualities, and judgment.
I believed that I had decent self-confidence when it came to some areas and not so much when it came to others. I knew that my lack of self-confidence came from past mistakes that led me to have a negative perception of myself or because I had never done something and did not know if I could. I guess it is something that most of us all face at some point in our lives. It took me time to build up real self-confidence in myself. Through daily action and a consistent commitment to trying new things, I was able to build up my self-confidence.
The truth is that from time to time those fears come back but the difference is that I now know how to address them. If you want to live your life on your terms with confidence so you can break free from the traditional mold, you need to increase your self-esteem and self-confidence.

Here are 6-Steps To Boost Your Self-Confidence
1. Take Small Steps
Let me share with you a story. Some time ago I was fearful of going to the gym because I knew I was going to be surrounded by people that knew what they were doing and were in much better shape then me. The truth is that I was afraid of getting out of my comfort zone.
At first, I felt uncomfortable and awkward with the machines and probably fumbled through it but I figured it out eventually and that raised up my confidence level because I knew I could do it and I took the small step of going to the gym everyday and learning how to use the equipment and what to do.
Self-confidence is a process that is achieved every day. When you reinforce your commitment your self-confidence increases.
Taking one small step at a time will help you overcome your fears. When you have to face a fearful situation use courage to boost your self-confidence. When you become mentally stronger and build your skills you increase your self-confidence in the process.
No matter what fear you are facing the key is to put yourself out there. Remember, our fears should not rule us.
2. Think About Your Achievements
It is important to think about your achievements. It doesn’t have to be some major achievements, it could be things like getting good grades at school, learning a new skill, a promotion at work, or going to the gym ect.
The key to boosting your self-confidence is to think about what you have achieved and avoid thinking about what you did not do and did not achieve. When you realize that you have success in your life you feel better about yourself and and give yourself evidence that you can achieve your goals and things you have set out to do.
3. Increase Your Skills
A great way to boost self-confidence is by increasing your skills. To do it you have to commit and have the courage to follow through.
Increasing your skills requires practice. For example, if you want to be a better speaker, instead of trying to speak in front of 1000 people right off the bat, just start speaking more every day in the mirror and then close family and friends and then 10 people and 50 and so on. The more you practice the better you will be. When you improve your skills you are boosting your confidence.
4. Accept Your Imperfections
Self-confident people focus on continuous improvement rather than perfection. You have to remember that making mistakes just makes you human and does not mean that there is something wrong with you.
Don’t wait for the “right time” because you will never start. It is key to stop seeking perfection instead try to do your best. Everything can be improved whether it be a skill, a personal trait, a project, a service, a product, etc.
5. Cut The Negative Self-Talk
Stop beating yourself up. Talk to yourself kindly. You have to remember that it is the voice in your head that judges you, doubts you, belittles you, and tells you that you are not good enough.
Everything you say to yourself matters. You can’t pursue the life you want to live if you are constantly criticizing yourself. When you have a positive mindset you will boost your confidence and you will learn more easily. Learn to re frame the negative self talk once it starts and have a positive affirmation you repeat daily to yourself.
6. Act Positively
It is important to start thinking and acting positively. Visualize yourself. Positive action is the key to boost self-confidence. One thing is to learn to think positive, but once you start acting on it, you change your mindset, one step at a time.
You have to remember that you are what you do, so to change you need to change what you do. Act in a positive way, take action instead of telling yourself you can’t. Be positive and get out of your comfort zone.
Positively talk to people, and put good vibes into your actions. You will soon start to notice a boost in your self-esteem. Finally, make sure to be kind and generous to yourself, with your time, and with other people. When you constantly act this way you will improve your self-image and boost your confidence.
